Are you one of those women who walk through a store and can’t help but gush over all of the adorable clothing available to little girls these days?  You involuntarily touch the fabric, and secretly wish you were still a child yourself so that you could wear the frills and lace.  I have definitely been known to do that once or twice.  Luckily I have a job that allows me to get my fill of fancy dresses and dreamy taffeta vicariously through the beautiful little girls I photograph.  In the spirit of spring time I’ve been looking for inspirational outfits that capture that fresh, renewed feeling we get from this season of rejuvenation.  I absolutely, positively, and completely LOVE these outfits for little girls.  There is nothing I love more in a girl’s dress than bright colors and fun accents.  These little sundresses and outfits are so cute and whimsical!  I think they do well to capture that fun, happy personality that is so common in little girls.  The mismatched patterns and flared pants give these dresses a proper vintage look, and a feeling of child-like fantasy.  I can’t help but feel that the designer must have been inspired by an outfit a daughter of theirs chose to put together themselves one day.  The colors, ruffles, lace, and patterns are all things that should never work together, but somehow they just do.  Being a kid should be about creativity, imagination, and fantastical ideas.  Spring time is the season that brings all of those child-like ideas to life.  The flowers are blooming, trees are so green, and all of those elements are in place for a child’s imagination to blossom into a fantasy world we can only envy.  We should never be afraid to let our children express their creativity, and these outfits are the perfect way of showcasing their wonderful personalities.

On the other side of this, I love to photograph little girls in white ruffles and lace.  They are only this pure and innocent for so short a time.  The fanciful, angelic feeling that these old time ruffles give can make a photograph something to be cherished for life.  When I am photographing a child, I want to see all of that personality and innocence come out and become dominant.  Making a child feel like they are part of their own little fantasy world with outfits and the proper scenery makes for that perfect shot you will love forever and always.  Spring is a season of joy, and what better time to photograph your youngster?

All of these beautiful outfits and photos came from Izzy and Ash. An adorable girl’s boutique clothing store that is now one of my favs.  Their style in children’s clothing is truly wonderful. Check them out! I am sure you will find something magnificent for your little princess….

Oh how I am loving these beautiful, vibrant spring colors! Here are some of the looks I put together over the weekend to give you a little inspiration for your next family photo session or your next shopping trip.

Go fun & vibrant:

Or choose cooler tones for more of an earthy feel…

Or maybe you really love those pastel colors! If so, this is the look for  you:

Do you notice how the sister is wearing a busy skirt with lots of different colors? It is adorable! Now, if brother had been wearing a plaid shirt or shorts, this look wouldn’t go well together.  But I went ahead and put the brother in a complimentary color instead.  Don’t you just love these colors!!

I just told you not to do plaid, right? In this case the plaid works because the dress has small print. So the brother is now the one with the busy outfit. So just remember to only have one person in a busy outfit.

You might have noticed the beautiful tangerine orange in many of our groupings. That is because it is the 2012 Color of the Year. So be prepared to see it everywhere.

All of the above looks were put together from the following stores: Janie & Jack, Old Navy, the Gap, Polyvore, Carters,  and See Kai Run.

Spring is here! Spring is here!  I welcome with open arms the warmer weather, desert wild flowers, and the rare opportunity to feel comfortable while outside.  I went out for a walk yesterday, and couldn’t help but take pictures of some of the lovely foliage that my neighbors have.  People don’t realize just how many colors we actually produce in the desert—the vibrant purples and reds, brilliant yellows, and we even have a bit of green!  I love to get out there and experience what the Earth has to offer us in the spring.  Now quick!  While the weather is still cool enough to do so, go out there and do something outdoors with the family.  Here are a few places I love to go when the weather is nice in Las Vegas—and the best part is that most of them are free!

One of my favorite places to go hiking is Red Rock Canyon.  Hiking there is free, but if you want to bring a car in be prepared to pay a $7.00 fee.  They have dozens of trails to choose from, and if you go early enough in the spring you can even find some of the small snow fed creeks that go dry in the summer.  For more information about Red Rock, visit the BLM’s website: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/lvfo/blm_programs/blm_special_areas/red_rock_nca.html

Have you ever been to Las Vegas’s Springs Preserve?  I’m sure you must have passed it on the 95 at some point, and at least wondered about it.  This is a great place to take the kids and have a relaxing nature walk.  Check out the website for awesome events, and for information on their amenities and attractions: http://www.springspreserve.org/

What about taking a drive up to Mt. Charleston for a hike and a picnic.  This is especially nice on days when it’s just a bit too hot to do anything fun outside in town.  They have some lovely trails, but prepare well—if you go too early in the spring there can still be a lot of snow impeding on your fun.  For more info: http://www.vegas.com/attractions/outside_lasvegas/mountcharleston.html

Floyd Lamb Park is one of my favorite places to visit.  It’s so beautiful there, and absolutely worth going to if you’ve never been.  It costs $6.00 per car if you plan to drive in, and if you decided to walk or bike in it is $1.00 per person. For directions and other information visit this link: http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Find/21180.htm

Don’t forget about places like Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam either.  There are so many amazing attractions in and around Las Vegas, with so much national history—you can’t afford not to take your kids out there and engage their brains in some friendly history and their bodies in some exercise.  Take them out to the Henderson Farmer’s Market, or Lied’s Children’s Museum.  Take in a 51’s game at Cashman Field, or check out the events that UNLV has to offer.  There are so many things you and your family can take part in this spring, and I hope you can get out there and have some fun!

Here are some of the beautiful images I captured while on my walk. (hopefully I didn’t scare any of the neighbors!)

Don’t you just love those cloudy, rainy days? Makes you want to curl up with some hot chocolate and watch a movie or read a book.  I normally appreciate a rainy day. It reminds me of the cool California weather I experienced as a child.  However, when I have a maternity session and it starts getting windy I no longer care for that weather.  Despite the wind, clouds, and the bit of rain that we got, we were able to get these gorgeous images…

(Okay, we did shoot a few images on another day, but the weather was only a tad better. We actually got rain that day during the session!)

Birthdays….the best day of the year if you are a child!! I remember having a pinata at my birthday parties and I could not wait to have a go at it. I remember family getting together for an outdoor bbq and kids running around & laughing. I am hispanic which means that no matter how old your kid turns, you throw them a big party. So birthdays for me were a big social gathering every month! And I loved it.  It was a great excuse to get together with my cousins and play.  I can’t remember whose birthday it was, I must have been 6 or 7, but after someone’s party was “over” all of the kids got together as the sun was setting and played hide & go seek. One of the bedroom closets had a mini compartment way on top that I was able to squeeze in to. They never found me! hehe What do birthday parties mean to you?

I can’t wait to have children of my own someday.  I doubt their birthday parties will be a huge social event but they will be filled with loved ones and fun activities for the kiddos. After all, we are celebrating their birthday! lol

Here is the latest birthday girl. So full of life =)

I‘ve been able to photograph this little guy for the past two years.  It wasn’t until our Urban Kid Session that I realized he is all grown up.  He is no longer that little boy.  He just grew out of nowhere. You can tell they are maturing when they can pull off soo many different expressions soo well…

I never thought he could pull off a serious look…I was wrong..

And this one just cracks me up…

And this last one is probably one of the few baby faces I will get from him, now that he is getting bigger…
