Are you one of those women who walk through a store and can’t help but gush over all of the adorable clothing available to little girls these days?  You involuntarily touch the fabric, and secretly wish you were still a child yourself so that you could wear the frills and lace.  I have definitely been known to do that once or twice.  Luckily I have a job that allows me to get my fill of fancy dresses and dreamy taffeta vicariously through the beautiful little girls I photograph.  In the spirit of spring time I’ve been looking for inspirational outfits that capture that fresh, renewed feeling we get from this season of rejuvenation.  I absolutely, positively, and completely LOVE these outfits for little girls.  There is nothing I love more in a girl’s dress than bright colors and fun accents.  These little sundresses and outfits are so cute and whimsical!  I think they do well to capture that fun, happy personality that is so common in little girls.  The mismatched patterns and flared pants give these dresses a proper vintage look, and a feeling of child-like fantasy.  I can’t help but feel that the designer must have been inspired by an outfit a daughter of theirs chose to put together themselves one day.  The colors, ruffles, lace, and patterns are all things that should never work together, but somehow they just do.  Being a kid should be about creativity, imagination, and fantastical ideas.  Spring time is the season that brings all of those child-like ideas to life.  The flowers are blooming, trees are so green, and all of those elements are in place for a child’s imagination to blossom into a fantasy world we can only envy.  We should never be afraid to let our children express their creativity, and these outfits are the perfect way of showcasing their wonderful personalities.

On the other side of this, I love to photograph little girls in white ruffles and lace.  They are only this pure and innocent for so short a time.  The fanciful, angelic feeling that these old time ruffles give can make a photograph something to be cherished for life.  When I am photographing a child, I want to see all of that personality and innocence come out and become dominant.  Making a child feel like they are part of their own little fantasy world with outfits and the proper scenery makes for that perfect shot you will love forever and always.  Spring is a season of joy, and what better time to photograph your youngster?

All of these beautiful outfits and photos came from Izzy and Ash. An adorable girl’s boutique clothing store that is now one of my favs.  Their style in children’s clothing is truly wonderful. Check them out! I am sure you will find something magnificent for your little princess….

This was such an amazing newborn session.  We got off to a rocky start because this little man did not want to go to sleep.  He was so alert and only wanted to be cuddled by mom.  The secret was to be patient….very patient. After a lot of waiting around we were able to get some amazing family photos.  I LOVE them all so much that I had a hard time choosing my favorite.  And I just love the body art on mom & dad!

Can I please look like her when I have a baby….

Like Father like son…

And this is how alert he was for the first part of his newborn session…

Roman Jr. = Newborn

March 3, 2012

I feel very lucky to have gotten the opportunity to photograph this little guy.  He is so loved! And he has such great style.  Roman Jr. might not know it yet, but him & his dad have already started working on their first car together. Sure, Dad might have done most of the work and Roman Jr. just got to chill in it…

I thought of you guys when I saw this quote:

“When that kid looks into your eyes & you know its yours, you know what it means to be ALIVE.” – Author Unknown

Thanks M & R for letting me capture this precious time in your life.

Vintage.  Even the sound of this word is cool “vintage.”  So what is vintage? It can be something antique, something valuable that belonged to your parents, art, music, etc. Vintage can be a variety of things.  In case you haven’t noticed, vintage is very in these days. I am obsessed with vintage props, backdrops, clothing, etc.  When I was younger I would wonder what it would be like to wear clothes from the 20s or 50s, or I would get excited to find an old dusty book.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the modern clothing too, but there was something about “vintage” clothing that I’ve always loved. (Of course, back then I didn’t know it was called Vintage) So this is why I LOVED doing this “Vintage” newborn session.  I was able to play around with some new props and new editing techniques. I am in LOVE with these photos. Enjoy!

I Heart Faces {Oh So Silly!}

January 30, 2012

Oh So Silly! That is this week’s I Heart Faces theme. When I hear the word “silly” I immediately think of kids. That said, I usually think of one little kid who makes me laugh during his silly moments. My sweet Wes…

I can’t help it.  I always tend to give more attention to the little ones.  Could it be that they keep me on toes as they bounce from here to there?  Or those beautiful eyes full of hope? We did a few family photos of these lovely 5 and then focused on the kids one on one.  Both little ones were so full of energy.  Thanks Kelly for letting me photograph your beautiful family =)

A special bond…

December 29, 2011

Dear Wes,

I never thought I could love someone as much as I love you! Your dad and uncle Troy have been friends since they were in high school. I met your mommy when she married your dad. Whenever the four of us got together the following would happen: your dad and I would talk shop while Troy and your mom would play Peggle. It’s not that your mom and I didn’t like each other, it’s just that once your dad and I got chatting about business stuff there was no stopping us! I don’t remember when exactly it happened but I think it was right before she was pregnant with you; her and I started hanging out almost every night.  Your mom got me addicted to a few tv shows and her baking! We became instant best friends! However, there was a price to pay . I gained a few pounds from all the yumminess your mom  and I baked.  But it was worth it! The next few months we got to know each other even more and we realized we were like sisters! Your mom is one of a kind and I am so blessed to have met her. She makes me smile and is the sweetest! I can’t imagine not having her as my bestie.
As our friendship grew so did you in her tummy. I couldn’t wait to meet you. I already loved your parents a lot so it was normal for me to expect that Iwould love you too. I just didnt realize how much i would. Your parents asked me to photograph your birth. I agreed but warned them that I might pass out since I don’t do to well in hospitals. I showed up to the hospital around 4am and kept your parents company until your arrival later that day. When it was time for you to come out into the world I couldn’t believe how precious you were. When I finally got a turn to hold you I knew that you and I would have a very special bond.

As you started getting bigger I had to see you it least 2-3 times a week to get my Wes fix. I even made up a little song just for you. “Pa-pa-pa- party it’s time to party! Oh yeah!” I would sing this song to you over and over again and you would just laugh! That adorable laugh of yours has brought so many smiles to my face.  Troy and I would take you to the park in your red little car that you love so much.  Your face started to get more expressive and you were just fascinated with everything!

I couldn’t believe how quickly you grew up when you turned one! You went from this little baby that would tumble down as he sat up to a big boy that would now take a step or two.  I needed to test something out so you and I took a little trip to Calico Basin.  We walked along the boardwalk and I took some photos of you.  I sang our “party” song and you started clapping.  I loved how you would clap your hands together and the laughter that would follow.  No matter what we do, you and I always have a good time!

I was excited when you said my name for the first time.  Who would have thought that something as simple as you saying my name or running towards me to give me a hug could bring such a smile to my face.  One of your favorite things to play with since you were like 8-10 months was to play with my Iphone.  It didn’t matter if we had just finished jumping on the bed or playing “I am gonna get you!,” you always seemed to end up with my Iphone…

Here I am today wishing you a happy 2nd birthday. How is it possible that two years have gone by since I first held you in my arms?  Like I said before, I knew I would LOVE you because I love your mom, but I don’t think you realize HOW much I LOVE you.  You are one of my favorite people in the whole wide world! You are so full of creativity, love, and kindness.  I will treasure each and every hug & kiss you’ve given me.  I’ve enjoyed all of the wonderful times that we’ve had together and I look forward to creating more memories in the years to come.  Know this Wes, I love you with all my heart and always will.  You’ve created a little “wes” spot in my heart that will forever be there.  You are family to me and always will be no matter what.

I Love YOU,

Auntie Wendhy
