Family Fun…

This phrase has a different meaning for everyone.  For some it might mean having a game night while others might enjoy a picnic at the park.  Family fun doesn’t have to be a big elaborate production.  Kids like simplicity.  You don’t even have to spend any money.  Its time to get creative! Think about your childhood, what were some of the best moments you can remember?

My husband and his siblings were so creative during their childhood.  They would get together and make short movies.  They did a magic show and many other silly skits.  Watching those movies now bring so much laughter into the household.  You can really tell how much fun they all had.  Maybe try going outside of the box with your own kids.  You’ll be surprised how much fun  you’ll have.

My favorite moments were the ones filled with laughter and smiles.  I remember going to the beach on the weekends and having a ‘carne asada’ picnic with my entire family.  The adults would prepare the food as they reminisced about their own childhood as the kids attempted to build a sand castle.  How I miss our weekend beach rituals!  Its been 16 years since my family and I moved away.  Or ‘family fun’ activities definitely changed when we moved to Las Vegas.  Sure, we don’t have any beaches here.  But there are a lot of fun things to do.  Here are a few ideas of what you and the family can do in Las Vegas & the surrounding areas: (most of these are free to do!!)

• Red Rock Canyon – breathtaking! Take the kids for a hike.
• Floyd Lamb Park – great place for a picnic.
• Lake Mojave – fun place to go cliff jumping.
• Lake Las Vegas – another great place to walk around & have a picnic as you enjoy the beautiful lake view!
• Springs Preserve – a beautiful place to explore!
• Mount Charleston – snowboarding, sledding, or build a snowman with the kids.
• Storytime is available at various places like Barnes & Noble and your local library.

This week the I Heart Faces theme is {Autumn Splendor}. In Las Vegas right now the weather is still nice and only a few trees have started changing colors.

Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter.  Its a time for change; for new beginnings. Its when babies are no wee ones, and they become toddlers.  They become amazed by everything around them.  And everything they see makes them wonder.  What a magical time for them…

I love Autumn for what it represents: change.   Change is not to be feared.  We must welcome it.  It will be here no matter what you do.  It is what you do when change has arrived that truly matters.  So I hope that you have a beautiful Autumn and that you welcome it into your life. =)
